A love story can be a metaphor for an important journey ending in a longed for final destination—the wedding. Couples have tied the knot in the most exotic of places and dream destinations which serve as a perfect setting for a dream come true. However, some couples have taken creativity a notch higher by holding a special wedding themed after their much-loved Hollywood romance movie.
Hollywood films can tell the greatest of love stories and a lot of couples derive inspiration from these movie characters. Couples who can relate to a certain movie adapt the heroine’s wardrobe as the entourage’s dress motif or the leading man’s dialogue as the groom’s special vow at the altar. The possibilities are just endless.
James Cameron’s Titanic can be one of these inspiration-films. Set in the glamorous era of 1920s, the many scenes which depict class and elegance provide perfect wedding ideas. A bride can never go wrong with Rose Bukater’s many choices of gorgeous evening wear; she may just follow Rose’s dress and go for the traditional white. However, if she is bold enough, she may opt for Rose’s antique tunic with 2-part bodice lined with black velvet and a red chiffon rosette on the bosom.
For the groom, he may play the Jack Dawson part by wearing a sleek black tuxedo. Of course, the sketch pad and the charcoal may be saved for a private time with the bride at their honeymoon suite.
The Titanic was an elegant ship which had in its first class dining saloon gilded chairs and silk clothed tables. The menu consisted of grilled mutton chops, custard pudding, a plate of gorgonzola cheese along with other gourmet cheeses, filet mignon and French vanilla ice cream, among many others. The bride and groom may have the guests come in 1920s attire to complete the ambiance.
For the laid-back, comedy-loving couple, they may opt for the Frankie and Johnny theme wedding. Frankie and Johnny, played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino respectively, are two diner employees—a waitress and a short order cook who, needless to say, fell in love in the midst of their own self-discoveries and personal new beginnings. The film is wholesome and laid-back and, unlike some love stories, ends with the couple living happily ever after.
A Frankie and Johnny theme wedding is not much work: all you need is a diner as your venue and a dozen cook’s uniform and waitress’ polyester outfit. Serve home-made, comfort foods that are diner staples: waffles in maple syrup, an Eggs Benedict dish, chocolate cake and milkshake. Have love songs playing from a vintage jukebox and end the evening with rounds of coffee for everyone.
For the geeks, they can never go wrong with a Star Wars themed movie. Because a wedding is an affair which involves children and supposedly a celebration of a couple’s love, the couple must forget about the evil dark side and the disciples of the Sith and instead have the bridesmaids dress up as Princess Leia and the groomsmen as Luke Skywalker. Of course, the bride may have to invest money and time on a Queen Padme Amidala costume while the groom may enjoy his 15 minute of fame as the gallant Anakin Skywalker.
Glow tubes may serve as buffet and table center pieces with plates wrapped up in aluminum foil, for a futuristic feel. Have giant projector screens on walls with an on-loop movie of the stars and the galaxy shown in the familiar Star Wars opening crawl. Instead of a background music of violins and piano, play the more appropriate electro music and of course, the Star Wars sound track.
For the invitation, create a multimedia presentation saved in compact disks. Show the details of the wedding in the famous Star Wars opening crawl, of course with the whole thing beginning with the well-known “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." in a backdrop of a field of stars.
Since humanoids probably consume dust from Mars and cosmic rocks, serve normal human food to guests but spice them up by naming each dish a unique name in reference to Star Wars: ‘Chewbacca’s Choice Cold Cuts’, ‘Ra-Tatooine’ (a portmanteau of Ratatouille, a French vegetable dish and Tatooine, a Star Wars fictional planet) and maybe ‘Death by Sith’ for sinfully delectable desserts.
Weddings are affairs to remember and a beginning of another chapter in a couple’s love story. A wedding event deserves all the attention, time and effort because not only is it a celebration of the love of two people but also a prelude to a lifetime of commitment that they shall embark on.
To experience weddings themed after a Hollywood movie, sign up for A Day For A Lifetime - the Most Creative Wedding Fair in the Country which shall be held at One Esplanade, SM Central Business Park, Pasay City on April 10-11, 2010 (Saturday to Sunday) 10AM to 8PM.
